I used to think that way myself and took the risk: on my trip to the USA, I decided not to get travel insurance because of the cost. Fortunately, everything went well, but after seeing several news stories, I realized there are countless cases where travel insurance would have been an excellent investment. Because they didn\u2019t get it, many people end up paying exorbitant bills for surgery or a rescue.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">I swore never to travel without insurance again, and my \"nothing risky, nothing gained\" quickly turned into \"better safe than sorry\".<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Seguro_de_Viagem_Breve_Explicacao\"><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Travel Insurance: a Brief Explanation<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p style=\"font-style: normal; color: #163624;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 400; color: #404040;\">The main purpose of travel insurance is to ensure medical assistance in case of an emergency or illness during the trip. The insurance is only valid for the days you selected and that are stated in the contract, always in accordance with the specific terms of each policy.<\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; font-style: normal; font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-family: Helvetica, sans-serif;\">Besides health, travel insurance also protects you against other unforeseen events that, unfortunately, are quite common. Many insurance policies include coverage for lost or stolen luggage. For example, when I did an international exchange in Canada, the airline lost my friend\u2019s suitcase.
